I am going to do a partial restoration on my wd, well eventually all my 3 a/c s and am wandering about the paint removal on the hod and sheet metal parts. If there is good paint that wants to stay on should i try to remove it orwill it present a problem when i repaint due to the differences in hight on the metal or will it all blend in good together? thanks in advance.

According to my son in law (paint and body man) you should remove the old paint first. Many of your new paints will not be compatable with the old stuff and will peal. If it's just the sheet tin you are working on now I'd sandblast it then use a good quailty primer and paint.

Sand, Sand,Sand. Sandblast to get all paint off. If some is still left on use a rag wheel on an angle grinder so you dont take off too much metal. Once you primer i would sand with some 900 or 1000 grit paper to remove and imperfections. repeat the Primering/sanding process until the primer is as smooth and as pretty as you want the paint. You might want to block and wet sand the primer too as final prep just make sure you get all the dust off once your done sanding and are ready to paint. You can just rinse off any sand or dust on the primer. The paint is just the looks a trully good job is all the work done to make the paint look good and the body look straight. Small amounts of bondo can be used and i would recomment if you have to fill any small dings.

Wow !!! Thanks guys! I was really thinking about a rattle can paint job to keep her feeling loved until i can get her overhauled and running proper since she is my first tractor, plus will have a loader on her unless i switch the mounted corn picker to her. She was my first. [tractor] lol and i already told nephew he was going to get her when i croak. He already took it upon himself to show off to his friends and turned her over so i have to replace radiator, fender seat, steering tower, etc. I''l probably write this down for future use, Once i used a brush to paint her > Hey it was a damn site better than she looked before. Made her and me both feel better. She might not be perfecct but she is loved. I drove her thru rain storms and blizzards trying to get started farming at old farm and since i am starting all over a gain want her to be top notch. thanks again guys.

P.O. 1 is the correct paint. Agco has it $$$$, lots use Krylon 1820, or you can buy a gallon of ppg and have cans made. Walmart krylon pumpkin will get buy till later.
