My wife says when she was a kid her dad had round bales that were wire tied. They were shipped in and her job was to pull the wires off.I am not disputing her but wonder if any company made wire tie or if they done it manually for shipping. Thanks.

I can't remember ever hearing about a wire tied round bale.

John I don't ever rember of a wire tie either but my wife is positive and her mind is very clear on this. This was in about 1961 or 1962. It praire hay and it came from Watertown SD. She was ur there one time and the hay shed just buzzes with rattle snake that were baled in the round bales. Thanks for input.

If it was in the early 1960's the only round balers were AC rotobalers. It would have to had wire tie put on for shipping (probably manually) or with machinery designed and made by the hay shipping company. Allis-Chalmers never made a wire tie rotobaler, only wire tie square balers which came after 1963.
Big round bales didn't start until Vemeer built the first one in 1972.
